Hyderabad, August 12: The Telangana government has decided to maximize the utilization of water from the Godavari River. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy instructed officials on Wednesday to initiate lift operations from the Yellampally, Devadula, and Sitaram projects to make the most of the available water in the Godavari.
During a review meeting of the irrigation department, the Chief Minister emphasized that, according to the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), water is currently not being stored in the Sundila, Annaram, and Medigadda barrages, all part of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stressed the need to strictly adhere to the NDSA’s recommendations. Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy informed the Chief Minister that deficiencies had been found in both the Medigadda and Sundila barrages.
In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy suggested consulting the NDSA on this matter. Uttam Kumar Reddy also reported that the Devadula project is utilizing nine pumps for water lifting, marking an unprecedented step. The Chief Minister directed officials to focus on resolving minor issues related to lift irrigation operations at the Devadula and Sitaram projects.
The meeting also reviewed pending compensation payments for farmers in several villages whose land was acquired for various projects. The Chief Minister ordered officials to prepare an action plan to ensure immediate compensation for these farmers.
Irrigation and revenue officials were instructed to visit the affected villages and prepare a factual report on those at risk of submergence, along with updates on pending compensation and rehabilitation issues.
The Chief Minister emphasized that immediate compensation should be provided to villages directly impacted, clearing the way for water storage in the Basavapur and Gouravalli projects.
CM Revanth Reddy also ordered a comprehensive study to enhance the capacity of the Gattu and Gudemdoddi lift irrigation schemes and to appoint a consultant for the Gudemdoddi pump-storage project.
