Hyderabad, July 20: In compliance with a Supreme Court directive, the Telangana government has formed a committee to conduct thorough inspections of all private universities in the state.
The committee is chaired by the Commissioner of Collegiate Education (CCE), with the Secretary of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) serving as the coordinator. Additionally, the Registrar of JNTU is a member-coordinator, along with registrars from Palamuru University and the Chief Finance and Accounts Officer from Osmania University. An Assistant Director from the Technical Education Department is also part of the committee.
The state government has granted the committee the authority to include experts if necessary. This committee is focusing on nine specific points outlined by the Supreme Court while inspecting each private university in the state.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister‘s office, the Supreme Court has raised concerns regarding the increasing number of private universities and the true intentions behind their establishment. The court is also scrutinizing the academic qualifications of the faculty teaching at these institutions.
The statement noted that several complaints were presented during the hearing of the Ayesha Jain vs. Union of India case. Following a review of these complaints, the court ordered inspections of private universities across the country.
Given the arbitrary operations of private universities, the Supreme Court instructed state governments to conduct a comprehensive investigation into every aspect, from the purpose of establishing these universities to the quality of education provided, and to submit a detailed affidavit.
In line with the Supreme Court’s directives, the inspection team is examining specific aspects related to the private universities in the state and preparing a detailed affidavit based on their findings. The state government will submit this affidavit to the Supreme Court.
The statement concluded that after submitting the affidavit, the state government will proceed with further actions as per the court’s orders. Additionally, the inspection team will investigate these nine points along with other necessary matters and prepare a report.
