Hyderabad, May 17: The Telangana government has established a high-level committee to categorize “Telangana Udyamakarulu” (state movement activists) into four distinct groups.
The committee’s inaugural meeting took place on Sunday, chaired by K. Keshav Rao, the government’s public relations and education advisor.
Attendees included ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC Prof. Kodandaram, and Adanki Dayakar, along with former MLC Ramulu Naik and Mothe Shobhan Reddy, who are also committee members.
According to an official statement, the committee proposed prioritizing those who lost their lives during the Telangana movement. The second category will include individuals injured during the protests.
The third group will recognize those who were imprisoned, arrested, or faced legal charges related to the movement. The fourth category will consist of activists from various states who played an active role at the grassroots level.
To identify activists in the fourth category, the committee suggested using newspaper clippings that demonstrate their participation in the movement.
The committee also decided to invite proposals from civil society members who played a significant role in the Telangana movement.
Consultations will be held with activists from the movements of 1969, 1972, and 1996 to gather suggestions.
Formed just two days ago, this committee is tasked with establishing strict criteria for identifying genuine activists and creating a comprehensive database for their welfare and state recognition.
The committee emphasized that its formation aims to preserve the legacy of the Telangana movement, ensuring that the selection of activists transcends political affiliations.
It acknowledged that previous governments had only provided support to select individuals. Therefore, this time, the selection process will be entirely impartial and free from political party influences.
During the meeting, the committee expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revant Reddy for establishing an official government committee to identify Telangana movement activists.
The committee also decided to set up its office at the “Amarveerula Jyoti” (Martyrs’ Memorial) complex in Hyderabad.
The panel plans to convene an all-party meeting soon to gather suggestions regarding the identification of martyrs.
Additionally, suggestions will be sought from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Telangana movement activists, 1969 movement participants, employee organizations, artist JAC, “Sabbandha Vargala” JAC, ethnic organizations, lawyer JAC, and various district-level movement organizations.
The committee has also resolved to conduct district visits to gather extensive public consultations and opinions.
