Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Launches Major Operation Against Cyber Criminals

Hyderabad, April 26: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has initiated a state-wide campaign named ‘Operation Crackdown 2.0’. The objective is to monitor previously arrested cyber criminals and ensure they do not re-engage in illegal activities.

This special operation, launched in collaboration with local police, began on Saturday. Officials reported that during the 2024-25 period, a total of 3,567 cyber criminals were apprehended in Telangana. Among them, 614 suspects from the state were selected for further scrutiny due to their involvement in significant economic cyber fraud cases and various other crimes.

Director of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, Shikha Goyal, stated that verification of 335 individuals has been completed. These suspects are linked to 480 cases within Telangana and 1,233 cases nationwide. So far, 218 individuals have been located; some remain at their registered addresses while others have relocated.

Currently, 115 individuals are still unaccounted for, and efforts to locate them are ongoing. Notably, three suspects have passed away. During the verification process, it was discovered that Prasad Kumar, a 30-year-old accused of child sexual exploitation and abuse material cases, is currently residing in Nepal.

In this state-wide initiative, 300 teams from the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau and law enforcement conducted simultaneous investigations at multiple locations. These teams gathered information regarding the suspects’ current addresses, employment, status, and activities.

This operation marks the first significant campaign for monitoring after arrests in cyber crime cases by the Telangana police.

The initiative has led to the identification of suspects and the compilation of detailed data for further analysis and monitoring. Cases showing signs of re-offending or suspicious activities are now under strict surveillance, with a list of suspects being maintained in accordance with police regulations.

Shikha Goyal emphasized that this is the first time such a comprehensive investigation of suspects has been conducted, with their criminal information shared with relevant police stations. This will enhance coordination among stations and improve monitoring effectiveness.
