Bihars Legislative Council Elections Heat Up as Prashant Kishor Calls for Accountability

Muzaffarpur, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in Bihar is buzzing as the elections for the Legislative Council’s teacher and graduate constituencies approach. With the nomination process underway, political parties and candidates are ramping up their campaign efforts. On Wednesday, Prashant Kishor, the leader of the Jan Suraj party, participated in a nomination event for candidates in the Tirhut constituency.

Kishor characterized the elections as a chance to hold the government accountable rather than merely a contest to form or dissolve it. He announced that Shyam Nandan Yadav will represent the Jan Suraj party in the teacher constituency, while Dr. V. Mohan will contest in the graduate constituency. Kishor noted that Yadav has a background in educational institutions and is the brother of martyr Pramod Yadav, while Dr. Mohan is well-known as a physician in the area.

“This election is not about forming a government or ousting anyone. It is about making the current government accountable for the next four years and curtailing its misguided policies,” Kishor stated. He criticized the previous assembly elections in November 2025, alleging that voters were offered 10,000 rupees in an attempt to buy their hopes and expectations. He urged educated voters to consider the future of themselves and their children, rather than voting based on caste or religion.

Kishor also targeted the government and the BJP regarding the flood situation in Bihar, claiming that many residents are suffering without adequate support from the central government. He emphasized that this election serves as a democratic means for voters to voice their concerns to power.

In a significant announcement for teachers, Kishor promised that if the Jan Suraj candidate wins the teacher constituency, efforts will be made to secure respect, job security, and the seventh pay commission for teachers before the next Lok Sabha elections. This initiative will encompass various categories of teachers, including those in finance-free, financed, planned, school-based, and specialized roles. He asserted that if they fail to deliver the seventh pay commission before the Lok Sabha elections, they will not seek votes thereafter.

Additionally, Kishor pledged to create job opportunities in the private sector for 10,000 educated unemployed youths in the Tirhut area if Dr. Mohan is elected. He expressed a commitment to extend benefits to the youth in the Tirhut graduate constituency, similar to those implemented in Bankipur.

Voting for the eight teacher and graduate seats in the Bihar Legislative Council is scheduled for October 23, with counting set for October 27. The Jan Suraj party has fielded candidates for all eight seats.
