
Hyderabad, June 22: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday. During the meeting, he requested support for the comprehensive establishment of cargo, MRO, and hangar facilities at the Adilabad Indian Air Force airport and civil aviation terminal.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that Adilabad is an ideal location for major airlines to set up their hangars, particularly in light of recent developments in the Middle East. He urged for the airport’s development to be prioritized.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the state government assured its cooperation for the upcoming development and expansion of the Adilabad Indian Air Force airport. The Chief Minister pledged full support from the state government regarding this high-priority project, especially concerning land acquisition and facility transfers.
He informed the central minister that, given the project’s significance for national integrity and defense, the state government would provide all possible assistance.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu announced in April that an airport would be constructed in Adilabad, which would include an enclave for civil operations. The defense department already possesses a 360-acre runway in Adilabad, while the civil aviation ministry has requested the state government to acquire an additional 450 acres for the airport’s construction.
The proposed airport will feature a major facility capable of handling Airbus A320 aircraft. The Chief Minister also requested the Defense Minister to expedite the approval of a significant project by DRDO/DRDL at a selected site near Devarakadra in Mahbubnagar district.
He expressed gratitude to Rajnath Singh for transferring land for the Gandhi Sarovar project to the Defense Ministry. The central government recently permitted the state government to commence work on its flagship Gandhi Sarovar project on defense land located at Bapu Ghat in Hyderabad.
