Ujjain, June 25: In Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh, police have registered a case against four individuals following the emergence of a viral video. The footage shows a vehicle being suspended in the air by a crane during a religious procession in Badnagar, just a day before Muharram.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of June 23, when the Muharram procession was taking place. This procession is held before Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a significant event for Shia Muslims.
Authorities revealed that a Tata Magic vehicle was lifted approximately 40 feet high using a crane, with two young men waving red flags from its top. Shortly after, a scene resembling an explosion occurred, shocking onlookers present at the event.
The video of this incident quickly went viral on social media platforms.
Ujjain’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Karandeep Singh, addressed reporters on Thursday, stating that an FIR has been filed against the procession organizers—Shoaib Khan, Talim Khan, and Zahid Khan—as well as the crane owner, Gopal Mali.
He clarified, “While permission was obtained for the procession, no activities involving explosives or endangering vehicles were authorized. Such actions are illegal and pose a threat to public safety.”
The police have initiated legal action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Initial investigations suggest that traditional explosives were not used; instead, several firecracker-style rockets were ignited simultaneously. The vehicle’s windows were closed, causing pressure to build inside, leading to shattered glass and body parts falling outward, creating an explosion-like effect. Authorities believe this stunt may have been intended to attract a crowd.
