New Delhi, June 25: An investigation team arrived at Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a probe into complaints of irregularities and serious negligence in patient care. The team, comprising various departments, discovered multiple irregularities during their inspection. The government has decided to take action against Fortis Hospital, and a detailed investigation report is currently being prepared.
Recently, during a hearing at the Chief Minister’s Jan Seva Sadan, a family reported that their son had been stabbed in the Shalimar Bagh area. He was taken to Fortis Hospital, where the family alleged that the hospital demanded payment before providing treatment. Due to the delay in receiving timely and appropriate care, their son tragically passed away. Distressed by this incident, the Chief Minister ordered the investigation into the hospital’s irregularities and negligence in patient treatment.
On Thursday, a team led by the District Magistrate of North Central District, S.S. Parihar, along with health, municipal corporation, fire department, and other officials, conducted the inspection. They received numerous complaints, including misuse of building bylaws, illegal construction, issues with fire safety systems, misuse of the basement, and severe negligence in adherence to medical protocols.
The team also reviewed CCTV footage and found that the young man who was stabbed had walked into the emergency room on his own. This raises concerns that timely treatment could have saved his life. The team has also examined records from the emergency department. According to the District Magistrate, given the irregularities and negligence in patient care, the government has decided to take action against the hospital. A comprehensive report is being prepared.
