Hyderabad, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two police officers for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh in exchange for governmental favors. This operation was reported on September 17, 2026, in Hyderabad.
The ACB team conducted a midnight operation that led to the arrest of Dayapa Gyanendra Reddy, a sub-inspector at the Keesara police station, while he was accepting the bribe. He was caught red-handed, following instructions from Arkapalli Anjaneyulu, the inspector of the same station.
According to a statement from the ACB, the officers demanded the bribe to grant a station bail and to refrain from harassing the complainant and his friend regarding an already registered case at the Keesara police station. Both the inspector and the sub-inspector are now in custody and will be presented before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Nampally for judicial remand. The investigation is ongoing.
The complainant reached out to the ACB after the officers began to harass him and demand money. Reports indicate that he was repeatedly asked to bring biryani and cold drinks over the past few days. Initially, the officers sought a bribe of ₹10 lakh, but a deal was struck for ₹5 lakh, with the inspector delegating the responsibility of collecting the bribe to the sub-inspector.
The ACB set up a sting operation and apprehended Gyanendra Reddy while he was in a car near Keesara Lake during Ganesh immersion duty. Upon noticing the ACB officials, the sub-inspector attempted to flee but was captured.
Following the arrests, ACB officials conducted searches at the Keesara police station and the homes of the implicated officers under the supervision of DSP Majid Ali Khan. The ACB has urged anyone facing demands for bribes from government employees to contact their toll-free number, 1064, assuring that the complainant’s identity will remain confidential.
