Hyderabad, June 20: Telangana Chief Minister K. Revant Reddy announced on Friday that the state government is committed to transforming Telangana into the nation’s education and sports hub.
During an event at LB Stadium, he emphasized the establishment of the Young India Integrated Residential School and the Young India Sports University. These initiatives aim to bring revolutionary reforms in education and to prepare for winning medals in future Olympics.
The Chief Minister, alongside Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, launched the distribution of Young India student kits to 2.75 million students and laid the foundation for sports complexes across various districts.
He noted that the rising influence of artificial intelligence (AI) is leading to unemployment for millions. In response, the government is implementing skill development programs for youth to create more job opportunities.
To enhance employability abroad, the government is providing education in English, German, and Japanese. Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are being transformed into Advanced Technology Centers (ATCs), and a skill university has been established to nurture young talent.
Revant Reddy urged students from social welfare institutions to aspire to become doctors, IAS, IPS officers, and political leaders. He called upon them to actively participate in the reconstruction of Telangana.
He held the previous BRS government accountable for the decline in the state’s education system, stating that there had been no increase in allowances and facilities related to education over the past decade.
“Immediately after forming the government, we increased these provisions. Many government schools were closed during the previous administration, but we have reopened them,” he stated.
In response to opposition criticism regarding the absence of a separate education minister in the state cabinet, he explained that he retained the department to ensure comprehensive reforms and provide quality education to the underprivileged.
He highlighted the revival of government schools and the introduction of a pre-primary education system, making them competitive with private institutions.
“The demand for seats in government schools has surged so much that several schools have had to put up ‘No Admission’ boards,” he added.
He revealed that 8.5% of the state budget is allocated to the education sector, marking a positive step towards strengthening this area.
For the fiscal year 2026-27, the government plans to spend ₹26,600 crore solely on education, viewing this expenditure as an investment in future generations.
On this occasion, both the Governor and the Chief Minister administered an oath of drug-free living to the students.
They also inaugurated various projects worth ₹50.73 crore aimed at developing sports infrastructure in the state. Foundations were laid for projects worth ₹36.65 crore for the construction of mini stadiums and the development of sports facilities in districts.
Additionally, sports academies for boys and girls were inaugurated at Gachibowli and LB Stadium, with an investment of ₹14.08 crore.
