Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes CM Samrat Chaudhary Over Womens Reservation Bill

Patna, April 19: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, has taken aim at the central government and Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. He stated that CM Chaudhary does not understand the bill. If he is confused, it is evident that he will only act according to what the “Gujarati brothers” dictate.

During a media interaction in Patna, Yadav questioned why the bill, which was passed three years ago, has not yet been implemented. He expressed concern that Chaudhary lacks knowledge on the issue. “He has become a leader, but what will he do? He will do what the Gujarati brothers say. People from the PMO in Delhi are coming to guide him. Even his principal secretary will be from the PMO,” Yadav remarked.

He emphasized that in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Bihar, they have provided the highest number of tickets to women and that this is a topic worth discussing.

Yadav further criticized the BJP, stating that they believe in the ‘Manusmriti,’ which is known for its regressive stance on women’s rights.

He accused the government of using the bill as a tactic to limit seats, despite earlier discussions about increasing them. “Where the opposition is strong, they have reduced the number of seats by up to four times. We understand this strategy well,” he added.

On the Women’s Reservation Bill, Yadav questioned who would oppose women’s rights. “We advocate for 50% reservation for women, including OBC women. They deserve their rights too. Women from both urban and rural areas should have representation in Parliament. Bring a bill that supports this,” he urged.

He praised the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for its commitment to women’s representation, noting that in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, RJD has allocated the highest percentage of tickets to women at 29%. Currently, 25% of RJD’s Lok Sabha MPs are women. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, RJD also provided 17% of tickets to women. The party boasts the highest representation of women in the Bihar Legislative Council at 21.4%. RJD is also known for having the first and only female Chief Minister of Bihar.

In contrast, Yadav pointed out that the anti-women government has not appointed a single woman from Bihar as a central minister or chief minister in the last 75 years.
