Congress Leader Questions Womens Representation in Government Cabinet

Mumbai, April 19: Senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has criticized the central government regarding women’s reservation and the Prime Minister’s address. He stated that while the government frequently speaks about women’s rights, it fails to provide concrete answers about their actual participation at the grassroots level.

Dalwai raised a crucial question: if the government genuinely advocates for women’s empowerment, why is there no visible participation of women in their cabinet, organizations, and ticket distribution, which should be at least 33 percent?

He emphasized that mere speeches are insufficient; real change will only be acknowledged when women receive equal rights at every level.

Furthermore, he noted that the ongoing political debate regarding women’s reservation shows that the opposition has consistently maintained that they are not against women’s rights but are demanding proper implementation. According to him, the government attempts to divert attention from real issues by politicizing this matter.

Dalwai also accused the government of creating a political atmosphere by linking various religious and ideological issues, causing the real problems to be overlooked. He asserted that women’s rights should transcend politics and should not be viewed merely as a vote bank.

He referenced history, highlighting that women played a significant role in the struggle for independence, and Congress has always honored their contributions. In response to the BJP’s allegations of nepotism against Congress, he argued that what the BJP labels as nepotism is actually an effort to grant women equality. However, he claimed that the BJP does not wish to empower women but rather to politicize the issue.

Dalwai expressed concerns about women’s safety and social issues, insisting that strict action must be taken against crimes committed against women. He urged the government to take stronger measures in this direction, stating that merely enacting laws is not enough; effective implementation on the ground is crucial.
