Patna, August 18: On Monday, a tribute ceremony was held at the National Janata Dal (RJD) office in Patna to commemorate the 19th death anniversary of Dasrath Manjhi, known as the ‘Mountain Man.’
Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, attended the event alongside several RJD leaders and activists. Many members from the Dalit and Mahadalit communities also participated.
After the ceremony, Yadav urged the Bihar government to erect a statue of Dasrath Manjhi in Patna and establish an ashram in his name.
He criticized the state government for alleged corruption and scandals, referencing the so-called dustbin scam. Yadav claimed that numerous irregularities have surfaced in various cases, questioning why no concrete action has been taken against those responsible.
He accused the government of protecting individuals involved in corruption, which has hindered any legal action against them.
Yadav also raised concerns about the government’s financial situation, asserting that the state is struggling to pay salaries and pensions. “This government has become completely bankrupt. It cannot pay salaries or pensions,” he stated.
Regarding the Raj Bhawan march scheduled for August 19, Yadav announced that it would be an open protest. He urged the public to participate in large numbers. The RJD plans to address student-related issues and a recent incident involving an AK-47 during the march.
According to Yadav, RJD leaders and activists will march to the Raj Bhawan, meet with the Governor, and submit a memorandum outlining their demands. He called on the public to join the march in significant numbers.
The incident involving AK-47 firing occurred during a student protest in Siwan. Yadav raised the issue on social media and submitted a memorandum to Bihar’s Director General of Police, Vinay Kumar, demanding action against senior officials. However, the Bihar police only suspended the constable seen firing the AK-47 in a video during the protest.
