New Delhi, August 17: The Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) is currently hosting a training program for Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers. During this program, India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, met with IFS officers from the 2002 and 2003 batches.
Dr. Jaishankar shared photos on the social media platform X, expressing his pleasure in discussing the evolution of India’s foreign policy over the past decade, which began with a focus on neighboring countries.
He explained to the officers how India has redefined its relationships with neighboring nations by prioritizing regional stability, mutual cooperation, and economic integration. This approach emphasizes infrastructure, connectivity, trade, and cultural exchanges.
The Minister also highlighted that the world is currently undergoing unprecedented changes. Geopolitical dynamics are shifting rapidly, new technologies are impacting the global order, and the COVID-19 pandemic has altered global supply chains.
He emphasized the importance for diplomats to learn the right lessons from these changes and incorporate them into policy. Dr. Jaishankar noted that India is emerging as a significant voice on the global stage. India’s role has expanded on issues such as G-20 leadership, climate change, terrorism, and reforms in multilateral institutions. Consequently, the responsibilities of foreign service officers have increased to robustly promote India’s interests.
It is noteworthy that this mid-career training program at the Sushma Swaraj Institute aims to prepare IFS officers for new challenges. The curriculum includes training on foreign policy, diplomatic skills, economic diplomacy, and media management.
