Chennai, July 16: The Tamil Nadu government led by the TVK party is poised to approve its first full budget today. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will preside over a crucial cabinet meeting at the state secretariat, where the budget for 2026-27 will be finalized. This budget is expected to be presented in the Tamil Nadu Assembly during the first week of August.
This budget holds special significance as it marks the TVK government’s inaugural full budget since taking office earlier this year. It is anticipated that the budget will clearly outline the new government’s priorities, development roadmap, and economic strategy for the current financial year.
Sources close to the government indicate that several major announcements related to public welfare may be included in this budget. It is likely to feature welfare schemes, development projects, and new policy declarations aimed at fulfilling promises made during the election campaign.
In recent weeks, Chief Minister Vijay has held multiple meetings with ministers, senior officials, and secretaries from various departments to prepare the budget. These discussions focused on reviewing budget proposals submitted by different departments, determining priority sectors, and deciding on the allocation of funds for various initiatives.
The cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday is expected to delve into the key features of both the state budget and the agricultural budget. Ministers will discuss significant proposals to be included in both budgets before granting formal approval.
The agricultural budget may announce several crucial measures aimed at enhancing irrigation facilities, agricultural infrastructure, crop productivity, and increasing investments for farmer welfare.
Government sources suggest that the budget may also unveil numerous public welfare schemes in sectors such as education, health, employment, social welfare, infrastructure, and urban development. Additionally, several new initiatives could be launched to improve public services and accelerate the state’s economic growth.
Apart from budget-related matters, the cabinet meeting will also discuss proposals for approving new industrial investment projects across various regions of Tamil Nadu. These projects are expected to boost manufacturing, create new job opportunities, and attract fresh investments to the state.
Once the cabinet grants approval, the finance department will complete all necessary formalities before presenting the budget. This first budget of the TVK government is anticipated to be a crucial document that will shape the government’s policies, development direction, and administrative priorities for the coming years.
