Guwahati, July 31: The flood situation in Assam remains critical. Over 212,000 people across eight districts have been affected by the floods. The death toll has now reached 80 this season, according to officials from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
ASDMA reported that the districts of Golaghat, Sivasagar, Vishwanath, Charadevi, Kamrup (Metro), Jorhat, Dhemaji, and Nagaon are among the hardest hit, with a total of 212,441 individuals impacted. The disaster has affected 437 villages across 21 revenue circles, with 17,198.09 hectares of crops damaged due to flooding.
In the last 24 hours, two more fatalities were reported in Sivasagar district, bringing the total number of flood-related deaths in the state to 80 this season. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in the affected districts.
Relief camps have been established at 21 locations to shelter displaced families, while district administrations are providing food, drinking water, and other essential supplies to those in need. Urban areas, particularly in parts of the Kamrup Metropolitan district, continue to experience the impact of the floods.
Officials have noted that water levels in several rivers remain high. The state government and district administrations are closely monitoring the flood situation.
Meanwhile, ASDMA issued a public advisory on Thursday night, urging residents to stay away from the Dhansiri (South) River, as water levels continue to rise in Numaligarh, Golaghat district.
The advisory stated, “Due to the rising water levels of the Dhansiri (South) River near Numaligarh in Golaghat district, citizens are advised to keep a safe distance from the river.”
