Gandhinagar, July 31: In response to a heavy rain alert, the Gujarat Police has activated its disaster preparedness and response system across the state. Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Singh Malik has instructed police chiefs in all cities, districts, and ranges to remain on high alert and coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property.
These directives were issued during a high-level video conference chaired by the DGP on Thursday. Senior police officials from across the state were advised to enhance their readiness in light of the adverse weather conditions expected in the next 24 to 48 hours.
According to officials, police units have been directed to keep essential flood relief and rescue equipment, such as boats and machinery, fully operational and ready for immediate use.
Local police personnel have been integrated into relief and rescue operations alongside teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
To mitigate risks in vulnerable areas, the Gujarat Police has implemented a joint evacuation plan in collaboration with district administrations, municipal corporations, the forest department, road and building departments, and electricity distribution companies. This plan aims to safely relocate people and their livestock from low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Traffic management measures have also been strengthened across the state. Police personnel have been deployed on national and state highways to control traffic and facilitate vehicle movement.
Authorities have arranged cranes to remove stranded vehicles if necessary and have established alternative routes to maintain communication in case of road closures.
The police have intensified efforts to raise public awareness through public address systems, social media platforms, and local communication networks. They are urging people to stay away from dilapidated buildings, electric poles, rivers, and drains during heavy rainfall.
Relief centers have been established at safe locations, providing food, clean drinking water, and electricity. Separate accommodations have been arranged for women, children, and the elderly.
District control rooms have been activated to monitor the situation round the clock. They will maintain continuous contact with the state control room in Gandhinagar to ensure timely decision-making and immediate action in emergencies.
To ensure uninterrupted communication during adverse weather, the police will utilize VHF, HF, and ROIP communication systems.
Police, home guards, village protection teams (GRD), traffic regulation brigades (TRD), and fire service personnel have already been deployed to sensitive locations across the state. During a review meeting, DGP Gyanendra Singh Malik instructed all officials and staff to remain fully alert over the next 24 to 48 hours and take immediate precautionary measures to protect both humans and livestock during heavy rainfall.
