Delhi Police Detain 150 Protesters Ahead of Tiranga Sabha

Delhi police detained 150 protesters heading to the Tiranga Sabha in Connaught Place, as tensions rose during the planned demonstration.

New Delhi, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, authorities detained around 150 protesters who were en route to the ‘Tiranga Sabha’ at Central Park in Connaught Place. This information was confirmed by sources within the Delhi police.

Activists from organizations such as the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), All India Students Federation (AISF), and All India Youth Federation (AIYF) staged a protest march in response.

CPI(M) MP John Brittas stated, “We were told that no one would be allowed to reach Connaught Place. Yet, we have made it here. We challenged the Delhi police and defied their restrictions, upholding the honor of our flag.”

In a related incident, police also detained members of the All India Students Association (AISA) and leftist party activists protesting near Mandi House, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Earlier, police apprehended AISA National President Neha Bora shortly after detaining Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP). Dipke was heading to the ‘Tiranga Sabha’ scheduled for 5 PM at Central Park.

Bora was taken into custody near Mandi House while attempting to join the CJP’s ‘Lahara Do Tiranga’ protest alongside other leftist activists.

Dipke had called for the gathering at Central Park to oppose the arrests of his party’s co-organizers, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. Despite receiving two notices from the police prohibiting the assembly in Connaught Place, Dipke urged supporters to come together and raise the national flag. The notices indicated that the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had not granted permission for the event and that a prohibitory order was in effect at the location, warning of legal action for violations.

CJP spokesperson Mehr Pasricha emphasized, “Our primary goal today is to assert our right to decide where the flag should be flown. No one can dictate to us where we can display our national flag. We will make that decision ourselves.” She added that the national flag has long symbolized patriotism and should not face any restrictions or obstacles.

Tensions continue to rise as the situation develops.
