New Delhi, June 18: U.S. President Donald Trump hailed the recent agreement with Iran as a historic success. He stated that this deal has ended the ongoing conflict, reopened the Strait of Hormuz, and ensured that Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons.
During a press conference following the G7 summit in Évian, France, Trump noted that world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, welcomed the agreement. They view it as a significant step toward stability in the Middle East.
Trump remarked, “On Sunday, we reached an agreement with Iran that fulfills all our objectives: ending the conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”
He elaborated that there was extensive discussion about the agreement among the leaders present at the G7 meeting.
“Prime Minister Modi was here, and we had a long conversation. He is a wonderful person. Everyone is pleased that we have reached this agreement,” Trump added.
The President mentioned that no leader from any country urged him to continue military action against Iran. He claimed that diplomacy and negotiation achieved what military action could not over a long period.
He emphasized that without this agreement, the U.S. could have dropped bombs for weeks or even years, but the Strait of Hormuz would have remained closed.
Trump highlighted that the reopening of this crucial waterway is one of the agreement’s greatest achievements, noting that maritime traffic has already increased significantly.
He stated that normal energy supply will resume in the coming days. Trump expressed optimism that the agreement would soon be signed, possibly within a day or two.
The most critical aspect of the agreement, according to Trump, is Iran’s commitment never to develop nuclear weapons. Iran has agreed not to create or acquire nuclear arms. He clarified that this agreement applies to both the non-production and non-acquisition of nuclear weapons.
However, Trump warned that if Iran does not comply with the agreement, military action could be reconsidered.
“If they do not honor this agreement or if there are issues not covered, it becomes a memorandum. If they do not adhere to it, we may have to bomb them again until they comply,” he stated.
