Washington, June 18: During the G7 summit, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a trade agreement between the United States and India is very close to being finalized. This assurance followed discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This statement comes at a time when both Washington and New Delhi are engaged in ongoing talks to strengthen their economic ties.
When asked how close the two nations are to finalizing the trade deal, Trump responded, “Very close.” He praised Prime Minister Modi’s negotiation skills, noting that while the discussions were tough, they were also quite positive. Trump remarked, “He is a very tough negotiator. To be honest, one of the toughest leaders.”
The U.S. President also highlighted the broad economic relationship between the two countries. He stated, “We had a very good conversation with Prime Minister Modi. We are working on trade agreements, and we are collaborating in many other areas. There is a lot happening between the U.S. and India.”
Trump emphasized that India is increasing its investments in the United States. He noted that Modi is initiating numerous projects and investing significant capital in the U.S.
The President repeatedly stressed the strong ties between the two nations. When asked about recent concerns regarding some U.S. policies towards India, Trump assured that as long as he is President, India will have a very good friend in the White House. He expressed his affection for India and deep respect for PM Modi.
Trump described the relationship as extremely warm, stating, “Our relationship is the best. The two countries cannot be closer.”
Prime Minister Modi remarked that the collaboration between the two nations has gained new momentum since their last meeting in Washington. He noted that their highly successful and productive meeting last year has infused new energy into their relationship. Both countries are working together across various sectors, with officials consistently collaborating to achieve the goals agreed upon by both leaders.
