New Delhi, April 24: The day was nothing short of a political tsunami for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal. In a joint press conference, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, and Ashok Mittal announced their exit from the party. They revealed that four additional MPs, including Swati Maliwal, would also be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Amid this rift within AAP, Swati Maliwal took to the social media platform X to announce her departure, stating, “I am also leaving the party. I will discuss this in detail soon.”
In her post on X, Maliwal reflected on her journey, mentioning that she left her job in 2006 to serve the nation. She highlighted her contributions to the RTI movement, the Anna Hazare movement, the formation of AAP, and her eight years of dedicated service at the Delhi Commission for Women.
Maliwal expressed her disappointment, stating that the principles, values, and commitment to honest politics that initiated this journey have been abandoned by Arvind Kejriwal and the entire AAP.
She wrote, “I was brutally assaulted at his (Kejriwal’s) residence at his behest. He went to great lengths to protect his goon and rewarded him with high positions. I received threats aimed at ruining me, and every possible attempt was made against me.”
Maliwal further stated that under Kejriwal’s protection, AAP has witnessed rampant corruption, incidents of violence against women, and the promotion of goon elements, alongside fraudulent activities in Punjab. Given these circumstances, she decided to leave the party.
She mentioned that she is currently in Itanagar for a parliamentary committee meeting and will discuss this matter in detail after returning to Delhi tonight.
