New Delhi (Udaipur Kiran News): The Supreme Court of India has once again deferred the hearing in the Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) case related to additional AGR (Adjusted Gross Revenue) dues, pushing the next date to October 6, 2025. The matter was earlier scheduled for hearing on September 26, following an earlier adjournment on September 19.

The case involves an additional demand raised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which claims the amount is separate from previously assessed AGR dues and still under calculation. Vodafone Idea has challenged the demand in the apex court, calling it unreasonable and legally unsustainable.
The Supreme Court has emphasized the need to bring finality to the long-standing AGR dispute, which has persisted for several years and significantly impacted the financial health of telecom operators.
Following the adjournment, Vodafone Idea’s shares dropped by 5.99%, closing at ₹8.16 on September 26, as investor sentiment weakened amid uncertainty over the outcome. The October 6 hearing is now seen as crucial for the telco’s future, given its fragile financial position and mounting liabilities.
With the Government of India now being the largest stakeholder in Vodafone Idea, the outcome of this case will play a pivotal role in determining the operator’s survival and revival prospects. The additional AGR burden, if upheld, could further strain the company’s balance sheet at a time when it is already struggling to raise funds and expand its 4G and 5G networks.
The AGR issue, which originated from differences in the definition of revenue for calculating telecom dues, has been a decade-long legal battle. Despite previous Supreme Court rulings directing telecom companies to pay their dues, disputes over calculations and additional demands continue to resurface.
All eyes are now on the October 6 hearing, where the Supreme Court is expected to move towards a final resolution of the matter.
