Amritsar, March 22: Sunil Jakhar, the President of the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed profound sorrow over the suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, on Saturday. He stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann no longer has any moral grounds to remain in power.
Speaking to the media, Jakhar emphasized that the BJP will fight at every level to ensure justice for the victim’s family. He noted that previously, people in Punjab were losing their lives due to their inability to pay extortion fees and were facing the rule of gangsters. Now, even government officials are being driven to suicide due to their inability to meet the alleged demands of ministers.
Following the suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, Chief Minister Mann asked Punjab’s Transport and Jail Minister, Laljit Singh Bhullar, to resign. Jakhar described this incident as akin to the daylight murder of a government official and insisted that an immediate case should be filed against Minister Bhullar, leading to his arrest.
Jakhar also expressed surprise at the Chief Minister’s statement that the investigation would be handed over to the state’s Chief Secretary, KAP Sinha, questioning when the Chief Secretary had ever investigated murder cases. The Chief Secretary was tasked with probing allegations of harassment and tender disputes linked to Bhullar, who represents the Patti assembly constituency for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The state BJP president asserted that this incident reveals the truth behind the state government’s claims of integrity. He remarked that this is not a cabinet but a gang of ministers. Jakhar called on the Chief Minister to take moral responsibility, resign, and ensure that the case is investigated promptly by an independent agency.
