DMK to Contest 165 Seats in Tamil Nadu Elections, Stalin Promotes Unity

Chennai, March 25: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has finalized its strategy for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The party will contest at least 165 seats, with seat-sharing arrangements under the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) nearing completion.

In this coalition of 26 parties, allied parties have been allocated a total of 66 seats. The Indian National Congress, the largest ally in the coalition, has been granted 28 seats.

Additionally, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has received 8 seats, while the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have been allocated 5 seats each. The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has been given 4 seats, and the Indian Union Muslim League along with the Humanist People’s Party will contest for 2 seats each.

Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin announced a significant strategic decision that the DMK and its allied parties will jointly contest 175 Assembly seats under the ‘Rising Sun’ election symbol. This move is seen as a demonstration of the coalition’s unity and strength.

In a letter to party workers, Stalin emphasized that the seat-sharing process was completed after extensive discussions with allied parties to ensure balance and democratic participation.

He also highlighted the achievements of the DMK government over the past five years, stating that the “Dravidian model” of governance has restored development and stability in the state. He credited the allied parties for advancing policies based on secularism, social justice, and equality.

Regarding the candidate selection process, Stalin noted that over 16,500 aspiring candidates participated in interviews held from March 17 to 23, showcasing the party’s strong grassroots organization.

Calling for unity, Stalin urged DMK workers to support all coalition candidates. He declared, “All 234 Assembly seats are ours,” emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to ensure victory.

With the seat-sharing nearly complete, the DMK-led coalition is gearing up to intensify its election campaign and strategize for a united electoral battle.
