Suniel Shetty Remembers ‘Border’ as ‘A Lifelong Responsibility’ on ‘Border-2’ Release

Mumbai: The film ‘Border-2’, starring Varun Dhawan, Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, has been released in theatres and is receiving a positive response from audiences. Amid the excitement, veteran actor Suniel Shetty recalled his experience from the original 1997 film ‘Border’, where he played the role of Bhairo Singh. For Suniel, the film was more than just a project; it became a lifelong responsibility that he continues to carry with pride.

On the release of ‘Border-2’, Suniel Shetty shared a heartfelt message on Instagram dedicated to his son Ahan Shetty, who stars in the new film. He expressed that ‘Border’ was not merely a film he acted in but a commitment that extended far beyond the camera’s roll. Suniel wrote, “My dear son Ahan, today I want to tell you that for me, ‘Border’ was not just a film I acted in. It became a responsibility I upheld even after the cameras stopped rolling. Seeing you in uniform years later revives that moment—not just as a memory but as a reminder of discipline, sacrifice, silence, and courage.”

He further elaborated, “This film is not about pride or war. It reminds us why peace exists. The border is not where a nation ends; it is where courage begins. Some stories do not remain on screen; they reside in the heart of the nation. We must never forget that the uniform is truly a symbol of the country.”

Suniel Shetty’s portrayal of Bhairo Singh, a soldier who sacrifices his life for the nation, was widely appreciated in the original ‘Border’. However, he revealed that initially, he was reluctant to take the role. When offered the film, Suniel hesitated because of prior perceptions about the film’s director, J.P. Dutta, who was known for his strict approach on set. In an interview, Suniel shared that before ‘Border’, he believed he might not get along with J.P. Dutta and had refused the offer, but later decided to accept it.

‘Border’ remains a landmark film in Indian cinema, and Suniel Shetty’s reflections highlight the film’s deep emotional and patriotic impact, which continues to inspire even decades later.
