Mumbai, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Marathi film “Gondhal” has been selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards in 2027. Director Subhash Ghai expressed his joy over this achievement, congratulating the entire team involved in the project.
In a post on Instagram, Ghai shared the film’s poster, highlighting the contributions of the cast and crew. He took particular pride in Ishita Deshmukh, the film’s lead actress, noting that she honed her acting skills at his institute, Whistling Woods International, before stepping into the world of cinema.
Ghai expressed his pride in Deshmukh, stating, “Today, Whistling Woods is proud of our former student Ishita Deshmukh. Her film ‘Gondhal’ has been chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscar this year.” He commended the director Santosh Dabhkar and the entire team, urging audiences to watch the film. “I sincerely congratulate the brilliant director and writer Santosh Dabhkar and lead actress Ishita Deshmukh for their outstanding performances. This film is a must-watch for everyone,” he added.
Reflecting on Deshmukh’s previous work, Ghai mentioned her leading role in the television drama “Janaki,” which aired for 208 episodes last year and was produced by Mukta Arts. He also noted that she won the Best Debut award at this year’s Filmfare Awards. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the entire ‘Gondhal’ team and Ishita,” he said.
Directed and written by Santosh Dabhkar, “Gondhal” features a talented cast, including Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, Kishor Kadam, Suresh Vishwakarma, and Nishad Bhoi. The film is set against the backdrop of rural Maharashtra and revolves around the traditional ‘Gondhal’ ritual, exploring themes of deception, strained relationships, and murder conspiracies.
