
Nagoya, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : In Nagoya, India and Bhutan engaged in discussions on enhancing sports cooperation between the two nations during the 20th Asian Games. The talks took place on September 20, 2026, between Mansukh Mandaviya, India’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee.
The Bhutan Olympic Committee stated that the meeting highlighted the longstanding and robust relationship between India and Bhutan. It emphasized that sports have emerged as a significant new area for bilateral collaboration. Both parties agreed to strengthen sports relations by increasing coordination among India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Indian Olympic Association, and the Bhutan Olympic Committee.
During the meeting, Mandaviya also mentioned India’s growing ambition to establish itself as a global sports hub. In response, Prince Wangchuck noted that hosting major international sporting events in India would be mutually beneficial. It would provide Bhutanese athletes with more opportunities to compete internationally and gain valuable experience.
Additionally, Prince Wangchuck expressed his support and best wishes for India’s sports journey and future aspirations. Earlier, on September 17, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck during an official visit to Thimphu. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of the King’s guidance in deepening the unique friendship between India and Bhutan.
