Caracas, September 25 (Udaipur Kiran News): Strong tremors were felt in western Venezuela and parts of Colombia on Tuesday evening, though no casualties or damage have been reported so far.

According to Venezuela’s Seismological Research Institute, two quakes struck the western region on September 24. The first, recorded at 6:22 pm, measured 5.4 magnitude at a depth of 26.5 km, with its epicentre located 40 km northeast of La Ceiba in Trujillo state.
Just minutes later, at 6:29 pm, a second tremor of 4.9 magnitude and 34.3 km depth was recorded, centred 58 km northeast of Bachaquero in Zulia state.
Local reports said the tremors were felt across several Venezuelan states, including Zulia, Falcón, Lara, Capital District, Yaracuy, Portuguesa, and Trujillo, as well as in multiple areas of neighbouring Colombia.
Earlier the same day, the Colombian Geological Survey and Chile’s National Seismological Center had reported quakes ranging from 6.0 to 6.3 magnitude, with the estimated epicentre 42 km northwest of Sabana de Mendoza (Trujillo). Some reports placed the origin near Mene Grande and Bachaquero, on the eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo.
Experts explained that the intensity of tremors depends on the depth and direction of seismic waves. On the Richter scale, quakes above 7.0 magnitude can cause severe shaking within a 40 km radius of the epicentre.
