Strict Measures Imposed by CM Reddy to Tackle Traffic Congestion Due to Rainfall

Hyderabad, June 15: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has taken the recent traffic congestion in Hyderabad caused by heavy rainfall very seriously. On Sunday, he warned officials that strict actions would be taken if traffic disruptions continue during heavy rains.

He instructed that all personnel, from constables to the police commissioner, must be present on the roads to manage traffic. He even mentioned that he would personally step out onto the streets if necessary.

During a review meeting with various department officials regarding monsoon preparations, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for heightened vigilance among officials during the rainy season. He stressed that robust arrangements must be made to ensure the public faces no inconvenience and warned that any negligent officials would face strict consequences.

The Chief Minister sought information about the situation in key areas of the city following the rainfall on June 9. He expressed his displeasure over the difficulties faced by citizens due to traffic jams in areas including Cyberabad.

Reddy pointed out that despite warnings from the meteorological department, municipal, police, and traffic personnel failed to remain alert. He reminded officials that he had issued several directives during a review meeting on June 1 regarding rain preparations.

However, he expressed strong dissatisfaction with the careless attitude of the officials. He noted the lack of coordination between municipal and police officers during the rainfall on June 9.

He instructed Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and DGP C.V. Anand to investigate the causes of the situation and take action against the responsible officials. CM Reddy made it clear that if such a situation arises again, strict measures would be enforced.

He directed officials to take necessary steps in advance based on the weather department’s forecasts. He emphasized that staff from municipal administration, hydra, traffic, and water board departments, along with civil police, must be present on the ground during rainfall.

He stated unequivocally that everyone, from the police commissioner to the lowest-level staff, must be on the streets. The Chief Minister also mentioned that he would personally take to the streets if needed. He warned that strict action would be taken if traffic congestion occurred due to mismanagement related to the rain.
