
Phnom Penh, March 24: P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) of India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), met with Prak Sokhonn, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Monday. The discussion focused on enhancing cooperation between the two nations across various sectors.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Secretary (East) P. Kumaran met with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn. The talks centered on strengthening multifaceted cooperation between India and Cambodia.”
Kumaran also met with Cambodia’s Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, Phoeurng Sackona, where they discussed heritage preservation projects and other areas of cultural collaboration.
On Sunday, Kumaran visited the Ta Prohm Temple and Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Jaiswal noted, “Secretary (East) P. Kumaran visited Ta Prohm Temple in Siem Reap, where the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is leading conservation and restoration efforts. Two phases have been successfully completed, while the third phase is currently underway.”
Angkor Wat Temple is the world’s largest ancient temple complex and symbolizes the shared civilizational heritage of India and Cambodia.
In another post, Jaiswal remarked, “Secretary (East) P. Kumaran visited Angkor Wat Temple, which is the largest ancient temple complex globally and a magnificent symbol of India-Cambodia’s shared civilizational heritage. India was the first country to assist in the restoration of this temple between 1986 and 1993.”
On Saturday, Kumaran also toured the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation Asian Traditional Textile Museum in Siem Reap. Jaiswal stated, “This is the first museum of its kind in the country, showcasing the rich textile traditions of the Mekong-Ganga region and highlighting shared cultural heritage.”
Last week, Kumaran met with a delegation led by Khieu Sovanratna, Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to discuss enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, heritage preservation, and development partnerships.
Following the meeting, Jaiswal posted on social media, “Secretary (East) P. Kumaran met with the Cambodian delegation led by Secretary of State Khieu Sovanratna. They reviewed India’s capacity-building initiatives for Cambodia, including training Cambodian diplomats at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS). They also discussed enhancing cooperation in trade and investment, heritage preservation, and development partnerships.”
