New Delhi, March 25: The Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, stated that Israel does not trust countries with which it lacks diplomatic relations. During an interview with a news agency, Azar was asked whether Israel trusts Pakistan in the current context, to which he responded unequivocally that Israel does not trust Pakistan.
Azar emphasized that Israel’s perspective is shaped by its own experiences and those of its close allies. He remarked, “We are not going to trust a country with which we do not have diplomatic relations. We trust our own decisions and those made by U.S. President Donald Trump.”
This statement comes in light of recent claims by the U.S. President regarding ongoing negotiations between Iran and the U.S. aimed at preventing attacks, during which Pakistan offered to mediate discussions between the two parties. Following this, the Israeli ambassador made his comments regarding Pakistan.
On one hand, there is a significant crisis between Iran and the U.S.-Israel alliance, while on the other, tensions persist between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Instead of addressing its internal conflicts, the Pakistani government has initiated efforts to mediate between the U.S. and Iran, positioning itself as a potential venue for dialogue. Pakistan has cited its relationships with both Washington and Tehran, even as it continues to conduct attacks on civilians and infrastructure in Afghanistan.
When questioned about the alleged U.S. investment plans in Pakistan’s Balochistan province and their potential impact on India-Israel relations, Azar stated that this matter is not directly related to Israel. However, he reiterated the close cooperation between Israel and New Delhi.
He said, “Israel is not involved in this. We have a significant collaboration with India. Fortunately, due to Prime Minister Modi’s visit, we have been able to advance and sign major agreements in the defense sector and other areas.”
Israel has previously provided strong diplomatic support to India following terrorist incidents. After the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Israel was among the first countries to express solidarity and support for India’s right to self-defense. The Pahalgam attack resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists at the hands of Pakistan-backed terrorists.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally spoke with Prime Minister Modi to condemn the attack, expressing solidarity by comparing it to the attacks that occurred in Israel on October 7. He also stated that there should be no safe haven for terrorism.
Following the Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Azar also mentioned on the social media platform X that Israel supports India’s right to self-defense, asserting that “terrorists should know there is no place to hide from their heinous crimes.”
Netanyahu was among the first global leaders to publicly support India’s response, reiterating that every country has the fundamental right to protect its citizens from cross-border threats.
