Strengthening Ties: Indian Minister Meets Costa Rican Counterpart in San Jose

San Jose, May 12: India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margerita, met with Costa Rica’s Minister of Science, Innovation, Technology, and Telecommunications, Paula Bogantes Zamora, on Monday. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation between their countries.

Following the meeting, Margerita shared on the social media platform ‘X’, “I had a productive meeting with Costa Rica’s Minister of Science, Innovation, Technology, and Telecommunications, Paula Bogantes Zamora. We explored various avenues to deepen the ties between India and Costa Rica, including support for Indian companies in Costa Rica, capacity building, and quick impact projects. Our discussions clearly demonstrated both nations’ commitment to strengthening and making our relationship meaningful.”

Margerita also engaged with the Indian community in Costa Rica, stating, “I spent a warm evening with our strong Indian family in Costa Rica. I met with diplomats, the business community, media, and ITEC alumni. The Indian diaspora continues to be a remarkable symbol of India’s values, talent, and goodwill worldwide.”

Earlier, the Indian minister met with Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two nations. Margerita emphasized that both India and Costa Rica share common values such as democracy, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order.

He tweeted, “I had my first official meeting with Costa Rica’s Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar. I was pleased to learn that this was his first official meeting since taking office.”

Margerita added, “We had fruitful discussions on strengthening cooperation between India and Costa Rica. Both countries share a common vision in promoting democracy, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order.”

On Sunday, Margerita inaugurated the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ wall at the University for Peace in San Jose. He remarked that India’s ancient philosophy of “the whole world is one family” continues to guide India’s relations with the world today.

He shared images on ‘X’, stating, “It is a matter of pride to inaugurate the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ wall at Costa Rica’s University for Peace. This ancient Indian philosophy still guides our relationships with the world.”

The minister also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the university, praising his message of peace and non-violence. He noted that Bapu is not just a figure for India but for all humanity, and his message resonates across the globe.

Additionally, he planted a tree under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign, promoting India’s commitment to environmental protection and global responsibility.
