
New Delhi, March 13: Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowel, Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC), met with General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Indian Army, in New Delhi on Thursday. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the defense partnership between their nations.
During their discussions, they emphasized security in the Indo-Pacific region, enhancing coordination through joint military exercises, and exploring new avenues for military collaboration across various sectors.
The Additional Director General of Public Information (ADGPI) shared on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowel met with General Upendra Dwivedi to discuss opportunities for strengthening the India-US defense partnership.”
He further noted, “The conversation focused on security in the Indo-Pacific region, increasing coordination through joint military exercises, and deepening military cooperation in several areas. This meeting reiterated the strategic partnership between both armies and their shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.”
Earlier in the day, Lieutenant General Vowel also met with Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh to discuss opportunities for enhancing cooperation between the two nations’ armies. Their discussions covered security in the Indo-Pacific region, military collaboration, and increasing coordination through joint training and exercises.
ADGPI stated, “Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowel met with Vice COAS Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh. Both sides explored opportunities for in-depth cooperation in diverse operational areas. This conversation highlighted the shared commitment and strategic partnership of both armies to promote stability and security in the region.”
Last month, the 16th edition of the India-US Joint Special Forces Exercise “Vajra Prahar 2026” was conducted from February 24 to March 16 in Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh.
This major special forces exercise aimed to enhance defense cooperation, coordination, and joint operational capabilities between the Indian and American armies at the Special Forces Training School in Bakloh.
ADGPI mentioned, “This exercise was organized to deepen defense cooperation, enhance coordination, and facilitate the exchange of advanced special operations techniques. Through challenging and realistic training scenarios, both teams will strengthen mutual trust and operational collaboration.”
According to the Ministry of Defense, the Indian Army was represented by 45 special forces personnel, while the US Army included 12 Green Berets. This exercise will further enhance coordination, mutual trust, and professional camaraderie between the special forces of both countries.
