Gujarat Police Launches Cyber Safety Campaign for Women and Children

Gandhinagar, July 2: The Gujarat Police has initiated a 28-day statewide campaign titled ‘Operation Safe Cyberspace’ aimed at enhancing the safety of women and children in the digital realm. This initiative focuses on technology-based policing, cyber awareness, victim support, and coordinated enforcement, as confirmed by officials.

The campaign runs from July 1 to July 28. It seeks to create a secure online environment by combining intelligence-led policing with community engagement and preventive measures.

According to the Gujarat Police, the goal is to ensure that women and children feel as safe online as they do in public spaces. The initiative also aims to reduce the risks of cybercrime through early intervention and timely police action.

Ajay Chaudhary, Additional Director General of Police, CID Crime (Women’s Wing), emphasized that the campaign focuses on enhancing public safety in the digital ecosystem, particularly for groups increasingly vulnerable to cyber crimes.

“This campaign aims to strengthen public safety in the digital world, especially for women and children who are victims of online exploitation, cyberstalking, financial fraud, identity theft, and other cyber crimes,” Chaudhary stated. Under the guidance of DGP G.S. Malik, the campaign aims to identify potential victims, prevent financial losses, raise cyber awareness, and ensure timely police intervention through coordinated action at all levels.

Police personnel across the state have been tasked with identifying potential victims, confirming cybercrime alerts, advising at-risk individuals, facilitating immediate reporting through the national cyber helpline, and ensuring prompt registration and investigation of crimes.

The initiative emphasizes ground-level verification, reaching out to victims, detecting threats, and preventing crimes before they escalate using cyber intelligence and analytical tools.

The Gujarat Police will collaborate with banks, telecom service providers, educational institutions, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), NGOs, and community leaders to enhance cyber awareness and strengthen preventive measures.

The campaign includes clear responsibilities for field officers, monitoring mechanisms, and performance indicators, with prevention, early intervention, and rapid response as its central approach.

Local implementation will be led by SHE teams and dedicated cybercrime police stations through awareness programs, community outreach, and targeted interventions.

These activities aim to help women, children, parents, students, and educational institutions recognize online threats and adopt safe digital practices.

The campaign has adopted the slogan, “Safety through Awareness, Investigation through Technology, Action through Law, and a Safe Gujarat through Public Participation.”

Statewide goals include educating 2.5 million citizens about cyber safety and responsible digital behavior, encouraging 2 million students to take a cyber safety pledge, conducting cyber awareness programs in 10,000 schools and 1,500 colleges, and organizing awareness sessions on cyberstalking, online harassment, digital privacy, and safe internet use for 100,000 adolescent girls.

Additionally, the campaign plans to hold 5,000 parent awareness sessions to help families protect children from online threats and has committed to ensuring initial police action on every cyber complaint related to women and children within 24 hours.

According to the Gujarat Police, this initiative aims to create a safer, more inclusive, and trustworthy digital ecosystem by integrating intelligence, technology, public participation, and proactive policing, while also promoting responsible digital behavior and strengthening public trust in law enforcement.
