Strengthening Economic Ties: Nirmala Sitharaman Meets Norways Minister Cecilie Myrseth

New Delhi, February 18: A significant meeting took place in Oslo aimed at enhancing economic cooperation between India and Norway. India’s Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, met with Norway’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Cecilie Myrseth, and State Secretary for Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Even Trondstad Sagabakken.

The Indian Ministry of Finance shared this information via an official statement.

During the meeting, discussions focused on concrete opportunities for collaboration in key sectors such as green technology, rare earth processing, the maritime and shipping industry, and fisheries.

Special emphasis was placed on strengthening mutual investment and technical partnerships in the context of the India-EFTA (European Free Trade Association) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).

Minister Cecilie Myrseth expressed her eagerness for Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s proposed visit to Norway later this year.

State Secretary Sagabakken praised India’s growing role in Norway’s maritime industry, noting that Indian expertise is proving vital for Norway’s maritime economy.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the effective implementation of TEPA would be mutually beneficial for both countries. She expressed hope for timely execution of the agreement, which is expected to open new avenues for investment, technology transfer, and job creation.

This meeting is viewed as a positive step for India-Norway relations. Experts believe that collaboration in green technology, the maritime economy, and fisheries will strengthen trade ties between the two nations and broaden the scope of partnership in the global supply chain.
