Kingston, June 14: Sri Lanka delivered an impressive performance on Sunday, defeating West Indies by 37 runs in the second T20 International match. Chasing a target of 195 runs set by Sri Lanka at Sabina Park, the West Indies team was bowled out for just 157 runs. This victory allowed Sri Lanka to level the three-match series at 1-1.
West Indies had a rocky start in their chase. Brandon King was dismissed for just 2 runs, and captain Shai Hope managed only 6 runs. However, Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell formed a crucial partnership for the third wicket, scoring 81 runs off 46 balls. Hetmyer contributed 36 runs from 26 balls, while Powell scored 43 runs, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes before falling to Maheesh Theekshana.
Sherfane Rutherford could only muster 14 runs, and Roston Chase added 17 runs to the total. Matthew Forde was dismissed for 8 runs, and Akil Hossain scored 14 runs off 6 balls. Shemar Joseph remained not out at 11 runs. Sri Lanka’s bowling was spearheaded by Dushmantha Chameera, who took 3 wickets for just 9 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga also claimed 3 wickets, while Dunith Wellalage took 2 wickets and Theekshana secured 1 wicket.
Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 194 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Kamil Mishara was the standout performer with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 61 runs off 40 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. Dasun Shanaka played a blistering innings, scoring 58 runs off just 24 balls at a strike rate of 241, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes. For West Indies, Shemar Joseph took 3 wickets for 32 runs, while Matthew Forde claimed 2 wickets.
