New Delhi, February 24: A SpiceJet flight bound for Leh had to return to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Tuesday due to a technical malfunction. The Boeing 737, operating flight SG121, was safely landed, and all passengers were deboarded without incident.
The crew detected the issue mid-flight, prompting the return. A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed that there were no warnings of fire in the cockpit. Sources at the airport indicated a potential engine malfunction, possibly related to the second engine.
This incident follows a similar occurrence last November when a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Kolkata had to make an emergency landing due to engine failure. All passengers and crew members were safe.
On November 9, flight SG670 faced technical difficulties while landing at Kolkata Airport but landed safely, allowing all onboard to disembark normally.
Additionally, on September 12 of the previous year, a SpiceJet Q400 flight from Kandla Airport to Mumbai also made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport due to a wheel found on the runway after takeoff. Again, all passengers and crew were unharmed.
In October, another SpiceJet aircraft heading to Patna returned to Delhi shortly after takeoff due to technical issues. Flight SG497 landed safely at Delhi Airport, and passengers were provided with an alternative flight.
