Speaker Urges Youth to Build Strong Character for a Developed India

New Delhi, April 26: The Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, urged the youth on Saturday to focus on education and take responsibility for advancing the nation by building strong character. Speaking at the annual award distribution ceremony at PGDAV College (Morning) of Delhi University, he emphasized that as India approaches its 100th year of independence, the responsibility of the nation will rest on the shoulders of the current generation. A ‘developed India’ cannot be achieved solely through degrees; it requires both education and character. Education provides direction, while character gives the strength to stay on that path.

Addressing students and teachers, Gupta remarked that PGDAV College is not just an institution but a living symbol of the legacy of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, whose call to return to fundamental values continues to guide generations today.

As India moves towards 2047, Gupta stressed that the dream of a ‘developed India’ will be realized by today’s youth. He recalled Swami Vivekananda’s belief that education is the expression of the completeness that already exists within every individual. He emphasized that true learning should awaken the ‘human’ within.

Referring to India’s rising global stature, Gupta noted that India has become the first country to reach the Moon’s South Pole. He highlighted the digital revolution, where UPI has emerged as a global model. Additionally, through ‘Operation Sindoor,’ India has demonstrated that a ‘new India’ does not compromise on security.

He stated that all these achievements are possible due to ‘character’—the integrity of scientists, the discipline of soldiers, and the dedication of professionals across various fields.

Gupta encouraged students to dream big while maintaining a strong foundation, stating that as a tree grows taller, its roots must also go deeper. He advised students not to fear failure but to fear dishonesty, as failure teaches valuable lessons, while dishonesty lingers for a lifetime.

He also emphasized the importance of pride in one’s mother tongue, culture, and country, asserting that those who forget their roots cannot stand strong. He further stated that the ‘Dayanand Anglo Vedic’ (DAV) concept beautifully merges modernity with tradition. Today’s generation possesses both technological advancement and knowledge of our civilization, and we must advance by integrating both.

Meritorious students were honored for their academic achievements, and the Speaker congratulated the award recipients.
