South Delhi Police Arrest Mobile Snatcher, Seizes Six Stolen Phones and Motorcycle

New Delhi, May 19: The South Delhi police’s Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) swiftly apprehended a mobile snatcher. Authorities recovered six stolen mobile phones and confiscated the motorcycle used in the crime.

A complaint was filed on May 5, 2026, after a woman named Yuvika Vadhwa reported her mobile phone was snatched near G-Block in the C.R. Park area. Following this, an FIR was registered. The police team conducted a thorough analysis of CCTV footage and utilized technical surveillance to track down the suspect.

On May 17, 2026, acting on a tip-off, the police set up a blockade in the Sangam Vihar and Nala Road, Khidki Village area, where they arrested the suspect, Akash. During the search, six stolen mobile phones were recovered. These phones were linked to multiple theft and robbery cases across various police stations.

The accused, Akash (20), son of the late Harkesh, is a resident of Sangam Vihar, New Delhi. According to police, he targeted women and unsuspecting individuals in crowded areas while riding a Hero Splendor motorcycle. To conceal his identity, he tampered with his number plate and covered his face. He sold the stolen phones to fund his drug addiction.

The operation was led by Inspector Umesh Yadav (IC/AATS South District), with a team that included SI Sajid Hussain, ASI Ravinder Singh, Head Constables Kamal Prakash, Krishna Kumar, Virender, and Constable Arvind. The entire operation was guided by Additional DCP (Operations) Arvind Kumar.

This arrest has resolved several robbery cases registered at C.R. Park, Mehrauli, Fatehpur Beri, Saket, and Ambedkar Nagar police stations. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to selling one mobile phone to a person named ‘Bunty.’ Police are currently conducting raids to apprehend Bunty.

DCP Anant Mittal of South District stated that the police will continue to enforce a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against street crimes and robberies. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant while using mobile phones in crowded areas.
