New Delhi, July 28: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut‘s comments regarding the recent protests against exam irregularities have drawn sharp criticism from JMM MP Mahua Maji. Maji stated that no one takes Ranaut’s statements seriously.
This response comes after Ranaut questioned the offensive language used by youth during the protests and asked whether these individuals, or their parents, could afford legal representation in the Supreme Court if needed. She suggested that they would become a burden on their families.
In a light-hearted tone, Maji remarked that it seems Ranaut is making statements about Newton’s laws of motion. She emphasized that Ranaut has a history of making nonsensical remarks, which people do not take to heart.
Regarding Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s comments about the director of IIT Madras, Maji expressed her lack of knowledge about Kamakoti’s expertise. However, she acknowledged that many RSS propagators have been appointed to key positions in educational institutions, where they fail to meet necessary intellectual standards. This, she argued, jeopardizes students’ futures and causes Indian educational institutions to lag behind.
Maji stated, “The Prime Minister claims the whole country is watching, and we can become a world leader. The reality is that we do not have universities like Oxford, Cambridge, or Berkeley. The idea of becoming a world leader is far-fetched.”
She pointed out that India has a significant number of educated individuals conducting research abroad, yet their talents are not recognized at home. Instead of increasing the budget for education and research, the government is restricting it, particularly in social sciences where funding is almost nonexistent.
Commenting on the clashes between Delhi police and students, she noted that such incidents are typically seen in authoritarian regimes. She alleged that tear gas was used against students during protests and even mentioned the use of an AK-47 in Bihar, as shown in photographs.
Maji also referenced a tragic incident in Maharashtra where a family mourned their daughter’s death following a paper leak, while the government welcomed the former education minister. She stated that this sends a negative message to the daughters of the nation.
