Mumbai, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Actor Sonu Sood, known for his philanthropic efforts, has once again voiced his concerns over a significant issue affecting students in India. Following a tragic incident in Delhi where a five-story building collapsed, claiming seven lives, Sood took to Instagram to suggest necessary policy changes to ensure student safety.
He highlighted the plight of students who relocate to different cities to pursue their dreams. In his post, Sood pointed out the stark reality that out of approximately 700,000 students in Delhi, only 30,000 have access to hostel accommodations. This translates to just one in thirty-one students being able to secure a place to stay.
Sood proposed that the government utilize vacant land near universities to construct safe and affordable hostels. He emphasized that allowing universities to build more facilities could provide students with security, ease parents’ worries, and generate revenue for both the universities and the government. Most importantly, he believes this initiative could save lives.
He stated, “Sometimes, a small change in policy can save someone’s biggest dream.” This call for action comes in the wake of the building collapse in the Satya Niketan area on September 6, 2026, prompting Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to order an investigation and structural audits of other potentially dangerous buildings in the area.
Sood’s advocacy for student safety and well-being reflects a growing concern over the living conditions of students in urban centers across India.
