Tragic Landslide in Dhanbad Claims One Childs Life, Several Injured

Dhanbad, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : A devastating landslide struck the Katras-Jogta police jurisdiction in Dhanbad on Tuesday morning, leading to the collapse of five to six homes in the Sijua coalfield area. The incident, which occurred in the No. 10 Three Patiya region, left several individuals injured, including two children. Tragically, one child succumbed to injuries during treatment, while others are receiving care at a private hospital in Katras.

Witnesses reported that the ground near the Sijua Kali Temple suddenly began to sink, creating deep and wide fissures that damaged nearby homes. Panic ensued among residents as they scrambled for safety. Local villagers quickly initiated rescue efforts, working to free those trapped under the rubble.

The landslide has instilled fear in the community, prompting many families to evacuate their homes due to the expanding cracks in the ground. Residents are concerned that if the landslide worsens, more homes could be affected. In response to the disaster, angry villagers blocked the Katras-Sijua main road and staged protests.

Protesters voiced their frustrations, claiming that despite the recurring landslides in the area, insufficient measures have been taken to ensure safety, provide relief, and facilitate rehabilitation. They are demanding immediate rescue operations, relocation of affected families, adequate compensation, and permanent resettlement solutions. Local residents have attributed the landslides to alleged illegal coal mining and underground activities in the BCCL area.

However, the official causes of the landslide have yet to be confirmed. Villagers are calling for a high-level investigation into the incident and for action against those responsible. The situation remains tense due to the roadblocks and protests, with residents urging local administration and BCCL officials to assess the situation and ensure the safety of those affected. Concerns and anger continue to grow among locals over the frequent landslides in the coal mining region.
