Following a court order dated 22 January, the police and SIT teams are conducting asset confiscation operations in Varanasi. These assets include both movable and immovable properties accumulated through illicit activities linked to the cough syrup racket.
Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, a resident of Varanasi, has been involved in the illegal codeine syrup trade for a long time. Earlier, the Sonbhadra Police arrested him from Dumdum Airport in West Bengal when he was attempting to flee abroad. The arrest was made possible due to the alertness and swift action of the police authorities.

The First Information Report (FIR) filed in Sonbhadra identifies Bhola Prasad Jaiswal as the prime accused. Investigations have revealed that he amassed substantial wealth through this illegal trade.
According to SP Verma, the investigation has so far confirmed the possession of ₹28.5 crore worth of assets acquired unlawfully, which are currently being seized. He also emphasized that the inquiry is ongoing and any further illegally obtained properties discovered will also face strict legal action.
