Social Justice Ministry Records Highest Expenditure of ₹11,810 Crore in 2026

New Delhi, April 5: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has reported an unprecedented expenditure of ₹11,810.82 crore during the financial year 2025-26.

According to the ministry, this figure represents a nearly 14% increase from the ₹10,409.00 crore spent in the previous financial year 2024-25. This growth highlights the department’s strong focus on the timely utilization of funds for welfare schemes.

The ministry stated, “The highest expenditure to date has been recorded for welfare schemes aimed at Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes during the financial year 2025-26.”

The government noted that it has also made record expenditures on initiatives aimed at reducing drug demand, improving the welfare of sanitation workers, supporting senior citizens, aiding transgender individuals, and assisting those engaged in begging.

The record expenditure achieved in the financial year 2025-26 underscores the government’s commitment to social justice, empowerment, and inclusive development for marginalized and vulnerable communities across the nation.

Meanwhile, 349 disability-friendly training centers located throughout the country provided skill training during 2025-26, certifying 1,883 individuals.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar shared these figures last month in response to a parliamentary question, revealing that 2,395 individuals with disabilities were trained by these centers during the financial year, with 1,883 receiving certificates.

Data indicated that Madhya Pradesh emerged as the leading state, providing training to 947 individuals with disabilities, of which 761 ultimately received certification.

Central Minister Virendra Kumar emphasized that the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is facilitating skill training for individuals with disabilities through listed government organizations and NGOs under the National Action Plan for Skill Development. This initiative aims to help them secure gainful employment and achieve self-sufficiency.
