Mumbai, March 29: Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chips are generating buzz even before their official launch. Reports indicate that there may be two versions: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
A recent report from ITHome reveals that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is expected to support LPDDR6 RAM. Initially, it was thought to be compatible with LPDDR5X, but new information suggests a shift to LPDDR6 for this model.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Will Support LPDDR6
The Pro model, identified by the internal model number SM8975, has appeared in customs information indicating this new memory support.
This system-on-chip (SoC) is rumored to feature a 2+3+3 CPU configuration, resembling the all-big-core setup of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This arrangement includes two prime cores for peak performance, three performance cores for sustained tasks, and three efficiency-focused cores.
On the graphics front, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is anticipated to include an Adreno 850 GPU, complemented by 18MB of graphics memory (GMEM).
The standard version of this chip is expected to share the same CPU architecture but may operate at lower clock speeds and utilize a slightly less powerful Adreno 845 GPU. Notably, this version is likely to remain with LPDDR5X memory instead of transitioning to LPDDR6.
While the official launch is still some months away, these specifications may evolve. However, if LPDDR6 is indeed integrated into the Pro model, it would represent a significant advancement in mobile memory technology.
