Mumbai, May 19: A 5-foot-long Indian Rat Snake, locally known as ‘Dhaman,’ was discovered slithering in actor Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartment in Mumbai. The incident caused quite a stir in the area. Fortunately, this snake poses no threat to humans.
A police constable on duty promptly alerted snake rescue expert Vicky Dubey.
Dubey arrived at the scene and carefully captured the snake, safely removing it without any injuries to bystanders. The situation was effectively managed throughout the operation.
The Bandra West police station and the forest department’s control room were informed about the incident, and an official diary entry was made at the police station.
According to the Bihar government’s Forest, Environment, and Water Department, the Dhaman snake is beneficial for agriculture. Commonly found throughout India, it is a non-venomous snake.
It preys on rats, frogs, lizards, and small animals. While it is not venomous and poses little danger to humans, its size and appearance can often frighten people.
The Dhaman snake is considered a vital ally for farmers as it helps control rat populations, thereby protecting crops from damage.
Known for its swift movement, it is also referred to as ‘Horse Chaser.’ The average length of this snake ranges from 5 to 8 feet, with a weight of around 2 kilograms. It typically lives for about 15 years.
