Mumbai, October 16 (Daily Kiran): Actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani has finally responded to the ongoing comparisons between her iconic show ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’ and Rupali Ganguly’s ‘Anupamaa’, calling such parallels “unfair and unrealistic.”

Smriti Irani, who made a strong comeback to television with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, said that while she appreciates the audience’s enthusiasm, the legacy of ‘Kyunki’ cannot be replicated.
In an interview with India Today, Irani said, “The original ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ had a phenomenal legacy — one that can never be recreated.”
Recalling the massive popularity of the original show, which aired in 2000, she said, “Back then, our show touched a TRP rating of 30. So if someone today achieves that, we can talk about competition, right?”
She further added, “If you have the ability to be remembered even after 25 years, then we can discuss competition. If you’ve been elected as an MP three times, served as a Cabinet Minister for 10 years, and been a BJP member for 25 years — then it’s fair to talk about competition.”
Irani emphasized that comparisons with newer shows are misplaced. “You can’t compete with someone who has just started. ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ continuing to resonate even after decades is proof of its impact. There’s no guarantee any show will return after 25 years and still receive the same love,” she said.
Concluding with her trademark confidence, Smriti remarked, “Talking about competition itself is wrong because no one today can reach a TRP of 30 or stay at No. 1 for eight straight years.”
