New Delhi, April 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 11th anniversary of the Mudra Scheme today, highlighting its positive influence on women and youth empowerment.
A post shared on X by “My Government” stated, “Real economic change doesn’t always start in the boardroom. Sometimes, it begins with a small loan, a local idea, and the courage to start. The Mudra Scheme is quietly reshaping the foundation of India’s economy. By providing loans without collateral, it has reduced reliance on informal credit, expanded financial inclusion, and strengthened loan discipline at the grassroots level.”
The post emphasized that first-time entrepreneurs, particularly women and marginalized communities, are making significant strides. Micro-businesses are flourishing, local jobs are being created, and informal enterprises are gradually becoming part of India’s formal economic structure.
In response to the post, PM Modi remarked, “This is a glimpse of the transformative potential of the Mudra Scheme and how it has positively impacted our youth and women.”
In another post, he stated, “The PM Mudra Scheme reflects an economic ideology where opportunities are accessible, initiatives are encouraged, and every dream is supported to come true.”
Launched on April 8, 2015, under PM Modi’s leadership, the Mudra Scheme aims to make the unemployed, youth, and women economically self-reliant. As of April 8, 2026, the scheme has effectively transformed job seekers into job creators.
Over the past 11 years, the scheme has produced millions of young entrepreneurs. A total of 523.7 million accounts have been opened under the Mudra Scheme, with approximately ₹33.65 lakh crore provided in collateral-free loans. The scheme has been a milestone in empowering women and marginalized communities, with nearly 70% of beneficiaries being women and 50% belonging to SC, ST, and OBC categories.
