Senior Congress Leader Mohsina Kidwai Passes Away, Condolences from Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge

New Delhi, April 8: Senior Congress leader and three-time MP from Meerut, Mohsina Kidwai, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 93. She breathed her last at a hospital around 4 AM. Her final journey will commence from her residence in Noida’s Sector 40 at 3 PM.

The news of Kidwai’s passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from various political figures. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have both expressed their condolences.

Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X to share, “The news of former Union Minister and MP Mohsina Kidwai’s demise is extremely saddening. She was a senior and dedicated leader of the Congress party, whose entire life was a testament to public service. With her simplicity, grace, and dignified political success, she inspired generations of women in our country. In this time of sorrow, I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family and supporters.”

Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed his sorrow on X, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Mohsina Kidwai, a prominent leader of the Congress party and former Union Minister, who dedicated over six decades of her life to national service. As a long-serving MP in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and a respected member of the Congress Working Committee, she remained a guiding force even during the party’s most challenging times. Her passing is a profound loss for the Congress party and the nation. My heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and countless admirers. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

Mohsina Kidwai was born on January 1, 1932, in Barabanki. She was elected twice to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh and served as an MP from Meerut in the by-elections of 1978, and in 1980 and 1984. She was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2004 to 2010 and again from 2010 to 2016. A close associate of the Gandhi family, Kidwai held the position of Minister in the central government and served as the chairperson of the Haj Committee. She also worked as the General Secretary of the Congress party and was a member of the Congress Working Committee and the Central Election Committee. During her tenure as a Union Minister in the governments of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, she worked in ministries such as Health, Urban Development, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.
