Washington, March 3: The US Central Command has reported that six American soldiers were killed during a significant combat operation against Iran. The fatalities occurred on March 2, with the remains of two soldiers recently recovered after being previously unaccounted for.
The command indicated that major combat operations are still underway. The identities of the fallen soldiers will remain confidential until 24 hours after their families have been notified. The operation, dubbed “Epic Fury,” represents the largest regional concentration of American military firepower.
According to a fact sheet released by US Central Command, the operation commenced at 1:15 AM on February 28, following directives from the President. It is being conducted within the command’s area of responsibility, targeting locations in Iran.
The document states that US forces are attacking targets to dismantle Iran’s security systems, prioritizing sites that pose immediate threats. In the first 48 hours, over 1,250 targets have been struck.
The deployed weaponry includes B-1 and B-2 bombers, F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22, and F-35 fighter jets, A-10 attack aircraft, Patriot and THAAD missile systems, nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, guided-missile destroyers, and MQ-9 Reaper drones.
Targets include “Command and Control Centers,” “IRGC Joint Headquarters,” “IRGC Aerospace Forces Headquarters,” “Integrated Air Defense Systems,” “Ballistic Missile Sites,” “Iranian Navy Ships,” and “Iranian Navy Submarines.”
The command noted that several squadrons of F/A-18s are actively supporting operations against Iran. US Air Force aircraft are flying day and night to provide overwhelming firepower.
Currently, Iran has no naval presence in the Gulf of Oman. Just two days ago, Iran had 11 vessels in the Gulf, but today, they have none.
For decades, Iran has disrupted international shipping in the Gulf of Oman and has attacked vessels. Those days are now over. The freedom of maritime navigation has strengthened the American and global economy after 80 years. The US military will continue to protect this freedom.
The Gulf of Oman connects the Arabian Sea to the Strait of Hormuz. A significant portion of global oil shipments passes through this region. Any disruption affects the global energy market, impacting major importers like India.
